This is Where it Begins
Why Begin Before You’re Ready?
I’m not going to lie to you. I don’t feel ready. I don’t feel ready to open up to you. To write my heart out and post it on the internet for everyone—my mother, friends, nemeses, old bosses, new bosses, and everyone in between—to stumble across after typing my name into a Google search bar.
Alas, I’m doing it anyway.
I’ve found that waiting until you’re ready is a funny thing. It leads to eventually. And sure, eventually comes—but at what cost?
Time. Energy. Money. Anxiety. Pressure to be perfect. Pressure to perform.
Starting before you’re ready means accepting a critical truth: if you sit on the thing and do nothing, then that’s exactly what you’ll get from it—nothing.
If you’re like me and think “ready” means certainty, then you and I are both in for a rude awakening.
Because certainty is hard to come by.
If I waited until I felt completely confident, completely healed, completely sure of myself, this would never exist.
I’d drift in and out of my drafts—editing, reworking, questioning, doubting—going round and round on the hamster wheel my therapist threatens to send to my house so I can get some physical exercise while doing mental gymnastics.
At a certain point—and I guess that point is tonight—someday became today.
And I’m doing it.
Before I feel ready.
For the record, this isn’t an “I made it” story. It’s not a victory lap or a grand announcement.
This is a beginning.
And this is where you jump into my story.
Thank you for being here.
XOXO,
Lucy
